Thomas Jay Adams: 12 Months

12 month stats: 21 lb 2 oz, 29.9 inches

At 12 months, Tommy was never in one place for long. He was still not walking independently, but he would crawl super fast to get where he needed to go. He would hold on to people, furniture, and walls to prop him up so he could walk around. He was great at walking as long as Mommy or Daddy were holding his hand. He liked to push his little car to help him walk around the room. This month, Tommy also started climbing. He would line up the pillow, ottoman, and couch and climb them like stairs so that he could reach things on top of the end tables. He also would push a laundry basket up next to the kitchen table and climb on top of it so that he could reach things on top of the table.

He liked to play peek-a-boo and was also starting to enjoy other silly made up games. He liked to yell "Aaah!" and then have us repeat the sound back to him. He would do this over and over again. He would do the same thing with a little growling sound. He also liked to play with blocks- he preferred destroying the towers to building them. He liked to screw lids onto empty jars and bottles and then unscrew them again.

Tommy turned one this month and had a fun Sesame Street themed party with his friends. His birthday is the first day of summer, and we celebrated appropriately with kiddie pools and water balloons. He was a big fan of his Elmo cake and made a HUGE mess eating it!

Thomas had a lot of new experiences this month. He went to the movie theater with Mommy. He loved eating popcorn and watching the Lego Movie on the big screen, but he only lasted through about 3/4 of the movie before it hit nap time and he got restless. 

We went to King's Dominion theme park for a day with friends, and he loved it! He had fun watching the roller coasters, riding on a few kiddie rides, and playing in wave pool at the water park.

He loved the 4th of July festivities. He had fun at the town celebration in downtown Apex, loved visiting with friends, and he stayed up late to watch the fireworks. He was mesmerized! He also started to really love dogs. Whenever he saw a dog he would get really excited and start laughing and try to chase the dog. He thought it was hilarious when dogs gave him kisses. 

Thomas was very crafty and smart and getting into all sorts of trouble. We got locks for the toilets to keep him from splashing in the water and putting things in the toilet. Within a few weeks, he had learned to un-clip the toilet locks and had removed the lock completely from one of the toilets. He would sometimes bang on the baby gate over and over again until he knocked it loose so he could get into the kitchen. He was also getting more wild when he played and would end up with little bumps and bruises like a tough guy. 

 

He learned to open soda cans and was always trying to drink Daddy's diet sodas. Sometimes Daddy would let him pretend to drink his soda (with the cap still on). 

He added some new words to his vocabulary: "more," "yay," and "ya." If we asked him a yes or no question, he would say "ya" for yes and if the answer was no he would either say "done" or say nothing. He would say "num num" ("yum yum") for food. He was still a really great eater. His favorite things to eat this month were goldfish crackers, fruit (especially watermelon and cherries), animal crackers, and applesauce.

Towards the end of the month, his sleep schedule totally changed. He moved from two naps a day (at 10:30 AM and 3 PM) to one nap a day at 12:30 PM. We also installed black-out curtains in his room and he switched from waking up at 6 AM to sleeping in until 9 AM! Hallelujah!
